BURN BAN IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE FOR THE CITY OF WARRENSBURG
With the prolonged dry conditions, effective immediately a Burn Ban is in effect for the City of Warrensburg. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Warrensburg is now classified as being in Severe Drought conditions. This Burn Ban includes all recreational fires, fire pits, and other open burning.
Barbecue grills are allowed to be used. However, we encourage everyone to take extra precautions currently when grilling. Dispose of charcoal ash in an appropriate manner. Maintain control of ashes and sparks from your grill by keeping the grill lid closed. Discard smoking materials such as cigarettes or cigars in a metal container or stamp out into dirt. Don’t dispose of these in grass, planter boxes or pots, or in other similar combustible material. Also, watch sparks from equipment such as lawnmowers, chainsaws, and other power equipment. Under the current conditions, a natural cover fire can spread rapidly. As we head into the fall season, a great way to protect homes and property is keeping leaves and other combustible materials away from homes, garages, sheds, and decks. We can all work together to keep Warrensburg safe.
We will continue to monitor conditions over the coming weeks and will reevaluate when we can allow open burning again. It will take significant rainfall to improve conditions. If you have questions or need more information, please contact the Warrensburg Fire Department at 660-747-9136.
